The fight to pass a California state budget for 2011-2012 that avoids cuts to in-home care.BACKGROUND
Gov. Jerry Brown’s recent budget proposal calls for an 8.4% across-the-board cut in service hours for all recipients of In-home Supportive Services (IHSS). This is in addition to the 3.6% cut that went into effect on Feb. 1 -- which would bring the total cut to 12%.The budget also proposes:
- ** Requiring all IHSS recipients get a doctor’s certification to remain eligible for the program
- ** Eliminating domestic and related services for children under age of 18 years who live at home
- ** Eliminating domestic and related services for adults who reside in “shared living arrangements”
- ** Eliminating all state funding for all of the IHSS advisory committees
