The Ventura County
Bargaining team began their first round of negotiations on September 24, 2008
at 11:00 a.m. with the IHSS Public Authority (PA).
During our first
meeting, SEIU-ULTCW introduced proposals that included ground rules, terms of
agreement and a preamble.
The Public Authority
and SEIU-ULTCW agreed and signed off on the ground rules. The Public Authority
is reviewing the terms of agreement and preamble proposals. We anticipate that at our next bargaining
session, they will present counter proposals.
Members of our
bargaining team are very excited and determined to fight to protect their
current contract and increase their benefits. Our bargaining team is
enthusiastic and optimistic about moving forward with our negotiations now that
the California Governor has signed a budget for the State of California.
Our next bargaining
session will take place on October 16, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.
SEIU Local 6434 joined the Disability Action Coalition, California Actively Living Independently and Free, Miracle Project, Regional Centers and many other community based organizations on Monday, September 15th at the People’s Convention Rally at Ronald Reagan State office building in downtown Los Angeles.

September 13th, 2008: The United Long Term Care Senior Association teamed up with Congress of California Seniors as a part of the letter writing campaign foraged by ULTCW to urge the governor to support and pass a quality budget.
The group gathered at Angelus Plaza, downtown Los Angeles, where Congress of California Seniors offices reside to urge seniors living at the facility to speak up for them selves and tell the governor about their personal struggles. The group collected 20 letters.
ULTC Seniors have been working tirelessly with other disability and senior advocacy groups to ensure that our California Legislature knows to preserve funding to service provider programs that enables a quality life.

The entrance to the Ronald Reagan State Building in downtown Los Angeles was flooded with more than 1,000 workers protesting the state’s budget delay, now at a record 78 days.
In a series of ongoing legislative visits, ULTCW members and staff have been keeping up the pressure on our elected representatives, demanding that they stand firm and support a responsible budget for the hard-working taxpayers of the state.
Los Angeles — a packed room of ULTCW members, local residents and coalition groups gathered at the Senior Association meeting on September 9th to get the latest news on the California State Budget.
The meeting was held at the Glassell Park Community Center in Eagle Rock.
